I've been a big fan of Eng Bee Tin's ube hopia eversince, actually anything with ube appeals to me. My friend recently spent the long weekend in a vacation in Palawan and I took this chance to ask her a big favor... if she can buy me a box of ube hopia, monggo hopia, crinkles and ube/ choco munchies from Baker's Hills. A lot of people have been raving about this so I know this is definitely something I should not miss to try.
I got the monggo and ube hopia, ube crinkles and some cashew tarts yesterday afternoon after meeting up with my friend. I was just so excited with the goodies so when I got home, I immediately placed them inside the fridge for a while. I couldn't help but try the ube hopia so I decided to just have it for dinner.
The ube hopia was just delicious! It was made with vegetable oil although they have one with pork oil as well. The crust was not too thick nor flaky but I loved how thick the ube filling is. It tasted like real ube and not just any coloring or whatsoever. It was different from the usual Chinese hopia we see in the grocery. This is definitely getting two thumbs up from me!
I also tried the monggo hopia (sorry, I wasn't able to take a photo). It was also good but I noticed that the crust was thicker than the ube. Was it because it was made with pork oil and not vegetable oil? That I don't know, but anyway it's still good. But if I had to choose between the two, the ube hopia will be on top of my list.
I still have cashew tarts and ube crinkles in the fridge. Gotta munch on them later!

Doc Gita, they said it's the same as Tipas hopia here in Manila (by Ribbonette's). I like that hopia too, pero parang iba pa rin yung sa Palawan. mas masarap! Hehe... yung ube crinkles nila, try ko palang later.. i-blog ko afterwards! Hahah.
i love ube sis. hope they have a branch here in Manila. I want to try it also. pag hopia kasi si eng bee tin and holland lng un naiisip ko.

ube - my eldest son's favorite when he was still a toddler! my youngest wouldn't have anything to do with it, though. lol. opposites.

Breakfast for Dinner at The Food Encounters.
This is good for afternoon snack with ice cold coke!
went to market2 yesterday and saw in one of the stalls there boxes of hopia from ribonette's bakery. i think it's P40 per box. they also have crinkles (choco and ube) and the mini cupcakes, looks the same as what my friend bought from palawan. so i guess, same owners nga sila?
I miss hopia! specially the eng bee tin ones, I wonder when I can find it here in NZ
wow want to try this, saan kaya sa manila may ganito?
angsarap: i wanna buy EBT again but try the mochipia naman... their ube is a classic!!
Jesz: i dont think there's 1. next best thing is Ribonette's (Tipas hopia) coz they say its only owned by 1 person.
Looks great! Thanks.
