Classic Chocolate and Purple Yam Cake

Here's my take on two Starbucks' cakes I've tried the previous week. :)

* Classic Chocolate Cake

I'm a self-confessed chocoholic and cakes are one of my weaknesses. I had a chance to order a Classic Chocolate Cake from Starbucks last week since the one that I really wanted to try (Green Tea Cheesecake or Purple Yam Cake) wasn't available. It was my first time to try this too. We always order from Purple Oven but our picks would always be the Chocolate Campfire or Grandma's Chocolate Cake.

This cake was good-- it was pure chocolate heaven from the cake itself, the choco filling and the thick chocolate icing. It wasn't that sweet especially if it's chilled. Loved the chocolate curls on top!! But if I had to pick between our two other Purple Oven favorites and this, I'd prefer the Choco Campfire or Grandma's Choco Cake because of the other flavors mixed in which doesn't make it too plain.

* Purple Yam Cake

After craving for this cake for so long, I finally had a chance to try it last week.

Being a lover or anything that is ube-flavored, I loved this cake, as expected! The cake itself wasn't too fluffy nor dry. The macapuno and red beans filling complements the cake so well. The purple icing was a bit too sweet so better eat it together with the cake than scraping it off and eat it as as (like what I did when I started eating my cake. LOL!).

The cake reminds me of the good ol' Pinoy favorite merienda, the halo-halo. It's so good especially when served straight from the fridge. I hope it has real ube halaya. I bet it's going make the cake even more delicious. Starbucks, please keep this on your menu.. don't phase it out yet.. :(
